Causal Analysis for
Digital Interventions Lab
We investigate how platform and technology design choices shape user behavior and market outcomes, using rigorous causal inference methodology.
Research Areas
Our research spans four interconnected areas at the intersection of causal inference, digital platforms, AI, and innovation.
Platform Design & Consumer Behavior
We study how digital platform and technology design changes alter decision environments, reallocate cognitive and transactional frictions, and affect outcomes such as engagement, conversion, and spending.
Causal Inference Methods
We employ large-scale field experiments (RCTs) through industry collaborations and quasi-experimental designs such as RDD, DiD, and Synthetic DiD, along with causal ML tools for heterogeneous treatment effects.
Counterfactual Reasoning & XAI
We examine how credible counterfactuals can be constructed for causal effect estimation and for producing interpretable, actionable counterfactual explanations when clean control groups are unavailable.
Innovation & Technology Management
We examine how firms leverage strategic alliances, intellectual property, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and manage competitive dynamics.

Jaewon Yoo (유재원; "Jay-One"; 兪在元, Yú Zài-Yuán)
College of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU)
Before joining NTHU, Dr. Yoo was a visiting postdoc fellow at NYU Shanghai. He received his Ph.D. from KAIST College of Business. His research investigates how platform and technology design choices shape user behavior and market outcomes through frictions in decision-making and execution.
